Captain Mohammed Rabia Al Kuwari, officer of the Violations Department at the General Traffic Department, confirmed that automatic monitoring was launched to catch violations of not wearing a seat belt and using a mobile phone, yesterday, Sunday.
Captain Al-Kuwari revealed - in statements to Qatar Radio - that the new radars can detect 3 violations at the same time, which are not wearing a seat belt, using a mobile phone, and speeding.
He elaborated that the newly installed radar systems are equipped to simultaneously detect three violations across all lanes, potentially leading to the apprehension of the vehicle's driver if they commit more than one infraction.
In terms of discounts related to seatbelt and mobile phone violations, Al-Kuwari clarified that a seatbelt violation is eligible for a discount if settled within 30 days. However, the fine for using a mobile phone while driving stands at 500 Qatari riyals and does not qualify for any discounts. He emphasized that this particular violation is highly stressed by traffic regulations due to its impact on road safety and the potential harm it can cause to public property and fellow road users.
Al-Kuwari further highlighted that any individual who receives a violation notice can exercise their right to address it either through Metrash 2 or on the Ministry's website. Typically, within one week, a response will be issued through Metrash 2, subject to review by the relevant authorities responsible for overseeing the unified radar system.
He underscored the Ministry of Interior's commitment to enhancing traffic safety, emphasizing that adhering to seatbelt usage and refraining from using mobile phones while driving significantly reduces the occurrence of traffic accidents. Al-Kuwari revealed that a substantial percentage, approximately 50 to 60%, of traffic accidents can be attributed to these two specific violations.
