Hamad International Airport (HIA), crowned the World’s Best Airport 2024, continues to enhance the travel experience with its state-of-the-art e-gate systems. Designed to fast-track immigration, these self-service kiosks simplify and expedite the verification of travel documents, ensuring smooth and efficient passage for travellers.
What Are E-Gates?
E-gates are self-service digital immigration systems located at the airport’s departures and arrivals. By scanning a valid passport or Qatar ID (QID), travellers can independently verify their travel information without the need for immigration officer assistance.
Who Can Use E-Gates at HIA?
• Travellers holding a valid passport or Qatar ID (QID) can use the e-gates.
• Young travellers must meet the 130 cm height requirement to use the system.
• As of 13 January 2025, only second-row e-gates are operational for young travellers, with staff assistance available to guide them.
How to Use the E-Gates at Hamad International Airport
1️⃣ Scan Your Travel Document:
• Approach the e-gate kiosk and scan your passport or Qatar ID (QID). Follow the screen instructions to ensure proper scanning.
2️⃣ Proceed to Biometric Verification:
• Once your document is verified, the first barrier will open. Step into the marked spot on the floor.
• Remove any glasses, face masks, or items obscuring your face.
3️⃣ Biometric Scan:
• Follow instructions on the screen to complete facial and fingerprint scans (if required).
4️⃣ Final Verification:
• Once the biometric data is matched, the final gate will open, allowing you to proceed.
🛑 Note: E-gates are for individual use only. Travellers in line must stand before the designated waiting line to maintain smooth operations.
