Expo 2023 Doha has officially opened the doors for individuals to join its volunteer programme, offering a unique opportunity to be a vital part of this six-month horticultural event. It aims to recruit 2,200 volunteers to be part of its #GreenTeam.
This was announced by Expo 2023 Doha on its website and social media accounts.
Volunteering has already gained popularity in Qatar, following the successful participation of volunteers during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Now, Expo 2023 Doha seeks the support of passionate and committed volunteers to ensure its success.
Applicants keen on becoming Expo 2023 Doha volunteers must be at least 18 years old by September 1 and be able to dedicate seven to eight days per month for six months. An essential attribute sought in potential volunteers is a positive attitude and a genuine desire to assist and support others.
Additionally, applicants must currently reside in Qatar. However, the Expo organisers have made provisions for individuals outside the country to apply, as long as they are self-funded and willing to relocate to Qatar for the duration of the event. It is important to note that the Expo 2023 Doha does not provide visas, travel arrangements, or accommodation for international volunteers.
While volunteer roles at Expo 2023 Doha are unpaid, the experience promises to be highly rewarding. They will become an integral part of a major international event, forging valuable connections and memories. As a token of appreciation, volunteers will receive an exclusive uniform to wear during their shifts and keep as a memento.
They will also be presented with unique Expo 2023 items as a gesture of thanks for their valuable contribution. Also, volunteers will have the opportunity to upskill by attending training sessions and applying their learnings on the ground. A certificate will be provided to validate their experiences, and they will be entitled to free food and drinks during their shifts. Furthermore, a special gift from Expo 2023 Doha awaits each volunteer, recognising their significant involvement.
Throughout the six-month duration of Expo 2023, each volunteer is expected to complete 45 shifts, averaging two days per week. Shifts typically last between six to eight hours, depending on the assigned role.
Volunteers can be part of various functions like accreditation, ceremonies, ticketing, events and cultural experience, health and safety, language services, media and broadcast, participant operations, protocol services, visitor services and experience, and workforce.
The Expo organisers emphasised that prior experience is not a prerequisite for applying to the volunteer programme. Expo 2023 Doha values diversity and inclusivity, welcoming volunteers with diverse abilities. Individuals who require assistance from a carer or a family member are encouraged to apply, and their applications will be processed together to identify the most suitable roles for them.
